The AMC XP / XPi is a well-featured solid-state stereo preamplifier built to offer good flexibility, clean sound, and useful convenience features, especially for systems with multiple sources and/or mixed analogue/digital components.

Key Features & Strengths

• Six input channels allow hooking up a turntable (via Phono/Aux), CD player, tuner, multimedia sources, DVD, and tape. Tape-monitoring means you can listen through and/or record from tape outputs, switching between sources while recording.

• The “MIX” mode is a clever feature: it lets you combine outputs from multiple inputs (like listening to CD + a computer output via multimedia input) simultaneously, all merged through the preamp's outputs. Good for background listening, multi-source overlap, or situations where you want overlays.

• High flexibility in input sensitivity adjustment means you can level match sources. If one source is much louder than another, you can tweak so switching is less jarring.

• Balanced (XLR) pre-outs help if you have long interconnect runs, or want a cleaner (less noisy) signal path, especially in demanding setups or pro-audio style rigs.

• Auto On/Off functionality is useful: you don’t always have to manually power it up. In “Audio Sense” mode, it powers on when signal is detected, and goes to (or remains in) standby a few minutes after signals fall below threshold. Trigger input/output allow linking with other components.

• Tone control: Bass, Treble, Balance adjustments let user tweak sound to preference or compensate for room acoustics. There is tone bypass or passive tone control path to preserve signal purity.
